Join us for this final set of the jazz weekend, and expect a real swinging upbeat foot tapping night in great company. This concert and lineup is led by Czech pianist Jarda Stastny (also known as Peter Graham), and horn player Rod Paton, together with other members of Zlámal PQ quartet and a few guests joining in. Jarda and Rod’s collaboration is of many years standing, and their CD is highly recommended.
Peter Graham (pseudonym for European lineups of Jaroslav Stastny) currently professor at JAMU, Brno, and was artistic director of Exposition of the New Music Festival. His greatest interest is in composition. Graham says, that it “grows as does timber in a forest”. He is concerned with creation itself rather than with the cultivation of the personality: ” I am what I do.” Several of his works have met with great success at performances in Great Britain, Germany, Poland, Austria, Italy, Romania, Holland, Sweden, France and the USA.
Rod Paton (voice/percussion)
Rod is an acknowledged expert and leading academic and educationalist in the field of music and creativity. A composer, workshop leader, horn player, singer and writer who specializes in improvisation, community music,
Martin Konvička (piano)
Student of the Janáček Academy in Brno and also graduated from the University of Music and Darstellende Kunst in Graz (Austria). He holds a Strun Academy Award for Young Talents, and played alongside many jazz musicians.
Juraj Valenčík (double bass)
Also a graduate from the Janáček Academy in Brno, both classical and jazz departments. Skillful multi-genre player of virtuoso level and unique style, and an established musician on the dynamicaly growing Czechoslovak jazz scene.
Václav Pálka (drums)
Czech drumer, arranger and bandleader, graduate from Janáček Academy in Brno, Accepted for studies in New School for Jazz and contemporary Arts in New York. Experienced gained from numerous international workshops and collaborations on the Czech jazz scene, now working on projects with Mark Turner (sax) and Larry Grenadier (bass) among others.
