TALK:ERIKA LYONS ON MUSIC THERAPY SUN 9th August
LINEUP: Erika Lyons (jazz bass player),
One of the best-known an busiest jazz double bass players around, Erika worked on the London jazz scene performing with many of the well-known names in British Jazz before moving to New York for 2 years where she studied with Buster Williams, Rufus Reid and Hal Galper. Erika has performed with numerous international musicians in clubs and festivals in USA and Europe. She has made many recordings as well as radio and television appearances including the Ray Brown masterclass in 1978. Erika continues to be much in demand as a bass player in the UK. Originally, she Erika began playing the double bass when she was 18 but in 2012, Erika decided to train as a Music Therapist at the University of West of England. She has since worked with different clients and groups, but especially with children who are adopted or fostered and who have suffered trauma in their early lives. Erika says: ‘my passion for Music Therapy comes from a lifelong love and involvement with music. Through continuing study, I have developed a deeper understanding of the profound ways in which music impacts on every aspect of our being.’
