Trombonist and composer Rory Ingham is one of the rising stars of the UK jazz scene – indeed announced as such at the British Jazz Awards 2017. Trained at the Royal Academy of Music, 22 year old Rory was selected as ‘One To Watch’ in the Shape of Jazz To Come section of Jazzwise magazine, and last year, was announced the winner of the 2018 British Trombone Society award Student of The Year. In 2016, he was voted runner-up in the UK Trombonist of The Year awards and a finalist in the Carl Fontana Jazz Trombone Competition at the International Trombone Festival in California. Rory has played with a number of internationally-acclaimed musicians including Chris Potter, Dave Holland, Dennis Rollins, Claire Martin, , Dave Douglas, Evan Parker and Dave Liebman. He has also played with many ensembles including the BBC Big Band, Mike Gibbs Big Band, Syd Lawrence Orchestra, and Jonny Mansfield’s Elftet. He is a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and is endorsed by Michael Rath Trombones, the youngest artist on the roster.

The unusual line up of bass, drums, sax and vibraphone adds to the unique sound created by this ensemble of passionate young players. With influences ranging from the jazz ‘greats’ such as Ella Fitzgerald and Shirley Horn, to modern composers including Kenny Wheeler and Marius Neset and singer-songwriters such as Nora Jones and James Taylor, the group have a truly individual and confident sound. A live music performance from this jazz/ cross genre band features arrangements of songs the members love and their own compositions written for this specific line up. Expect a friendly and warm evening of exciting improvisation and interaction featuring a vibrant young group of up and coming jazz musicians currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall. With such a wide range of influences, the band aims for a sound and style that appeals to all music lovers, surpassing the confinements of a genre – a debut at Brecon Jazz not to miss!
