“The Booj COLLECTIVE”  (Sextet) – WATERGATE (Brecon Workmen’s Club & Institute LD3 9AL) SAT 20th Aug @ 8.30 -9.30 PM

This fresh, energetic, exciting new line-up from Bristol are mostly formed form the auditioned Bristol University Jazz Orchestra (BUJO). Ollie who leads the band, is a music graduate  having studied jazz guitar under maestro guitarist Denny Illet.  Abbey Neave who leads on Trumpet was originally classically trained, became a convert to jazz at University.  Benjy Sandler on Saxophone is a recent University of Bristol graduate and planning on completing a Masters in jazz performance at Guildhall London. His influences include John Coltrane, Lynn Cassiers and Henry Threadgill. George Milnes is an up and coming Bristol-based drummer on the funk, soul and jazz scene. George was raised as a gigging and touring performer, playing drums in his father’s  band. He urrently plays in a successful jazz rock trio on the Bristol circuit. Expect classic swing to the more contemporary groove.

Abi Flynn joins the band on vocals fuses jazz, R&B, and soul with ’90s style hip-hop beats. Her debut release ‘Ambiguous EP’ on Tru Thoughts, melds a treasured neo-soul with a swell of edgy, jazz-tinted harmonies.
