Expect a spectacular performing duo, from two absolute superstars.
This creative partnership make beautiful music – both singers, pianist, bassist, two connected, skilful songwriters. Joanna is also a vocal coach to many ‘names’, a teacher, composer. Andrés is a sought-after bass player and key Latin musician.
In 2022, they played our Charity BJF Concert, organised by John & Jas Anderson. It was a sellout and the audience asked for more. Well, what about the jazz Club, we thought! So now we’re thrilled to feature this amazing musicaL partnership in 2025 at BJC.
With six solo albums to her credit, Joanna is considered one of the finest singer/pianists in the UK with a style that covers jazz, soul, bossa nova and blues. Beautifully crafted compositions give life to personal and expressive lyrics, which – like her songwriting hero Joni Mitchell – question and reflect life’s changes. Joanna’s interaction with her audience is warm and she has built up a huge following over her 20 year, performing regularly at Ronnie Scott’s Club, The Stables & Apex concert halls. The quality of Joanna’s live work is reflected by the stellar list of artists she and her band have supported – including Van Morrison, Tom Jones, Jamie Cullum, Roy Hargrove and The Buena Vista Social Club.
Andrés Lafone originally from Uruguay, is a pioneer of the UK Latin / Jazz scene. He studied at UK’s Guildhall School of Music and now with over 50 album credits to his name, Andrés has toured/performed/recorded with names such as Jon Cleary, Matt Bianco, Mike Lindup, Snowboy and more. He sings in the duo and plays double bass.
NOTE THAT this Duo event takes place on Tuesday (13/5) and on WEDNESDAY (14/5), Joanna will be running a VOCAL WORKSHOP at the CASTLE HOTEL. There is a separate booking link for this. Places strictly limited. Tickets £14 advance only. BOOK HERE
Joanna also holds a passion for teaching and amongst her students she includes international star Sam Smith, who she taught singing for some 9 years, starting when he was just 10 years old. During this period she also introduced him to songwriting; co-writing and producing his first demos. She is rightly very proud that he subsequently became the highest selling debut artist in US history! The Grammy and Oscar winning star has cited Joanna simply as “the reason I sing”. Brilliant!! Jamie Cullum / Bloody marvellous! Dame Cleo Laine / The Uk’s answer to Diana Krall and Norah Jones – Time Out
