WELLINGTON HOTEL – @Brecon Jazz Club-Monthly & Festival 2024-25

WELLINGTON HOTEL

Wellesley Suite Stage
The Wellington Hotel is located right the heart of this historic market town, and one of the oldest buildings in Brecon, The Wellington’s beautiful Georgian façade overlooks the town square and the monument of the Duke of Wellington. The statue of Wellington [1769 – 1852] (and famous for his ‘boots’ ) was erected in 1856 by Brecon resident Evan Thomas, although as far as we know the 1st Duke of Wellington (Arthur Wellesley) had no connection whatsoever with the town. In the late 70’s early 80’s the Wellington Hotel hosted Brecon Jazz Club in the ‘Dukes Bar’ and ballroom on the first floor. Following recent refurbishments the Dukes Bar is now know as the “Wellesley Suite”.

"Yes, it’s had its ups and downs, every bit as dramatic as the Beacons which rise above it, but the Brecon Jazz Festival has learned some tough survival skills as a result".  Peter Bacon, UK Jazz News 2018

"Virtual BJF2020 - Considering the obstacles associated with the pandemic, it was the triumph of organisation and technical expertise over limitation – so much so that while one might have wanted the real thing, its substitute may well develop a life of its own".  Nigel Jarrett, Wales Arts Review 2020

"The classic Brecon weekend is 9-11 August but there are several other excellent events around the festival this year including family jazz and dance on the first weekend and a film and jazz focus on the last". Tim Dickeson, Jazzwise 2024
